Have you heard? Rosy Toes Designs is sending something very special to The Wendy Williams Show to be used in their upcoming show right before The Oscar Awards! We don't know exactly when it will be, but thanks to The Artisan Group and GBK Productions, 67 lucky The Artisan Group members are sending their very best work to the show! And from this amazing group of artisans, that is saying something!
We don't know exactly when it will be on yet, but it will be around the time of the Academy Awards on February 24.
Boy was it hard to pick what I would send!
I wanted something that would be good for spring and summer. It had to be trendy. And it had to 'pop'!
I chose a new design I've been working on - my Ocean Breeze Silk Infinity Scarf. It's crafted from 100% reclaimed silk. The silk is fairly thin (fingering weight) and purchased from Darn Good Yarn. It is both free trade and fair wage, and comes from small women's cooperatives in Nepal and India. I LOVE THIS YARN! The drape is just perfect for the scarf.
The scarf isn't listed yet in the shop, but will be by Feb. 1. I will have the same style available in 5 different colorways.
I can't wait to show you them all!
VERY VERY SOON I'LL BE HOLDING A GIVEAWAY FOR ONE OF ROSY TOES DESIGNS' SILK INFINITY SCARVES! SO, ANYONE ELSE EXCITED?
One of the lovely alpaca females at Blessed Criations Alpaca Ranch in Somerville OH
Through word of mouth and pure chance, I recently met a local alpaca breeder and mill owner right here in Ohio. I've been looking for a local source for fiber for awhile now, but had not been able to find just the right supplier. Until I met Carrie Davis from America's Natural Fiberworks and Blessed Criations Alpaca Ranch. I was looking for someone who did it all - from raising the alpaca, to processing the fiber, to spinning the yarn. While Ohio has the highest number of alpaca breeders in the country, I was having trouble finding someone who met all my criteria.
I met Carrie through a mutual artist friend and we quickly realized that we could each benefit the other. I was looking for fiber and yarn. She was looking for a designer to create things for her from her fiber. I just got my first batch of yarn from her and can't wait to begin creating for my own shop! I am busy designing and creating a new line just for this amazing yarn! You can expect to see cuffs, wraps and shawls in natural colors of alpaca (it comes in 22 natural colors recognized by the textile industry!) appear in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, I am creating a number of products for Carrie - shawls and wraps, pouches, hats, ear bands and hair bands and more. She'll be bringing them with her to various shows she attends around the country, and eventually stock her farm shop with (when it is up and running).
I was lucky enough to be able to visit her ranch a couple of weeks ago and meet her herd and visit the mill. Blessed Criations Alpaca Ranch is located in Somerville Ohio and is the larges alpaca ranch in Preble County. Carrie and her husband Robbie are experts in the realm of alpaca husbandry, genetics, shearing and spinning. They are also excited about their craft, their animals, and genuinely enjoy what they do.
I am absolutely thrilled about the direction we are taking!
Carrie Davis of America's Natural Fiberworks and Blessed Criations Alpaca Ranch is happy to give tours of her ranch and mill. They also can process any type of natural fiber at their mill. They are located in southwest Ohio, just 30 minutes from Richmond, IN and an hour from Cincinnati. They can be reached at 513-276-0528. You can also check out their website at www.blessedcriations.com or www.americasnaturalfiberworks.com.
