I hesitated about applying. Many artists have doubt in the quality and caliber of their work. It's not uncommon. I thought, there is no way my stuff is good enough for this group. My work is pretty awesome, but heck, it's not that good! But then I thought, why not apply and see what happens. The worst they can say is no. So I did. And I got in.
Yes, I did a little happy dance!

So, the big question - WHY DO IT?
Here's why, I look at it as marketing, pure and simple. It is wonderful advertising, and I figure it into my budget. Yes, celebrities can afford to buy my bags, hats, and fingerless gloves. But, without this type of event, what is the likelihood that they would ever see it? There is the chance that a celebrity will pose with your product, which brings about amazing marketing opportunities. Some artists have been contacted directly by the celebrity - either for a future purchase, or to thank them for the lovely gift. If you gift to the press, they may choose to write about your product. Just being involved opens up exponential search engine and marketing possibilities for exposure for your business and your product.
Are there any guarantees? No. It's all in what you make of it, and how much work you put into marketing yourself. Blogging. Using social media. Sending out press releases. Contacting papers, magazines, etc. I've learned so much during the process. I've seen the scope of my business expand. I've also gained an amazing amount of confidence in myself and my work. I've been featured in a number of on-line blogs, had articles in the paper, press releases sent out, features in on-line magazines, and been a fox small business of the day. I couldn't be happier!
I have absolutely no regrets. I love the support of the group and the invaluable information that is shared. I love the opportunities and the excitement generated by that next big event.
